About Us

Welcome to Gary A. Knox Elementary

Thank you for taking the time to visit the Gary A. Knox Elementary School website. Knox Elementary is home to 550 students from preschool through sixth grade and we call ourselves the Knox Knights.

Our school is named after past Crane School superintendent Dr. Gary A. Knox. He served as superintendent from 1987-2004 and during that time made many improvements to not only the Crane District but districts throughout Arizona. We work hard to teach our students the character traits that Dr. Knox believed in - honesty, integrity and the importance of academic achievement.

We have many things that make us very proud.  Student achievement is an area of pride and also our state of the art vegetable garden, the "Garden of Learning" which is sponsored by our community partner, JV Smith Companies.  Our garden is a 63-bed organic garden that grows 25 different varieties of vegetables both in the winter and spring.  It is irrigated with city water to ensure that all that is consumed from the garden is safe for our kids. Our garden exposes our students to healthy eating choices and responsibility as EVERY student participates in the care of the garden.

Community Support

We value the support that our wonderful Yuma community gives.  Mr. Vic Smith, Owner and President of JV Smith Companies, is our community partner and the sponsor of our "Garden of Learning," which is a 63-bed vegetable garden that grows 25+ different varieties of vegetables during the winter and spring.  Our students are able to consume what they grow because it is irrigated with city water and there are NO pesticides or chemicals applied.  They learn the importance of making good nutritional choices and also the importance of responsibility as every student takes an active role in the growing and care of the garden.
